Elliott endured eye surgery #2 last week to correct strabismus (lazy eye) in his right eye. He was a champ. His parents, not so much. Boy it's stressful going through surgery with a child. The settings of the children's hospital pre-op area and surgery waiting room are stress in and of themselves let alone knowing your child is under anesthesia and having their eye ball muscles moved and tucked. Oy! At the moment Elliott's eye seems to be 'over corrected'. We're hoping at our follow up appointment on Tuesday that our "man of few words" doc will explain that this was done on purpose and the muscles will relax to the center over time! The recovery was a bit longer and harder on him this time. I think maybe it was because he was under anesthesia for longer this time. He was much more irritable and his sleep much more affected this time. By day three his Rocky style swelling had gone down and now he's left with minor swelling, some bruising (which could worsened from our having to pry his eye open to give him antibiotic eye drops, OMG!), and a bloody eye. Sounds great, right? He doesn't walk with a head tilt though, which is super, and he's back to his silly, smiling, sweet, feisty self!
